Robert Juarez, the Bakersfield College alumni and creator of the worlds only Quantum Networking system returned to town, to give his retirement speech tonight.

During the speech he spoke to 300 students on the importance Bakersfield College had on his career. Praising it’s financial accessibility and helping launching his career.

“Like many in this room I had to work a nine-to-five in order to attend classes. It was no bed of roses. I am glad to of attended Bakersfield College because it allowed me to be here today’.

Robert graduated in 2025 obtaining a Computer Science degree before attending MIT, where he obtained his Ph.d. Not shying away from his humble backgrounds, Robert speaks of his time in higher education.

“I wasn’t raised into the field like some of my constituents at MIT. It was a culmination of trials and errors.”

After obtaining his doctorate he started working with a team on the then theoretical Quantum Internet which allows for secure national voting and military communications. A dire problem which led to mass civil unrest in the presidential elections of 2020.

He led the team for over ten years before being granted the most prestigious award in Computer Science, the Turing Award upon it’s completion.

“You don’t go into these things looking to become famous or win awards. I had a problem which I knew our future relied on being solved. So i dedicated myself and my team to solving it”.

Retirement sounds like a long time coming for Robert telling the crowd, ‘I could comfortably sleep at night and retire. I leave my work to the eager’.

Speaking with him after the event he gives us more detail on his retirement plans.

“I owe the community that started it all, Bakersfield. I plan returning here to speak with the people that are reminiscent of myself. Someone who wants to help but needs a push”
